Moraes Clears Case Seeking Limits on Plea Bargains for Trial

Supreme Federal Court (STF) Justice Alexandre de Moraes cleared for trial on Wednesday (April 8, 2026) the case that calls for setting limits on plea bargain agreements.

Moraes, the case’s rapporteur, requested the inclusion of the process in the Supreme Court’s physical plenary agenda.

The case has been in progress since 2021 and was filed by the Workers’ Party (PT). The party advocates for the Court to establish parameters for collaboration agreements made with suspects.

The party argues that plea deals signed with those in custody should be considered void. The party seeks to ensure that cross-delation, where one accused implicates another, is not used to impose precautionary measures.

The action also aims to ensure the freedom of parties to negotiate the terms of agreements, within pre-established legal limits.

The date for the trial has not yet been set. It will be up to the Court’s president, Justice Edson Fachin, to schedule the session.

Master Case: The trial occurs as banker Daniel Vorcaro, owner of Master, and his brother-in-law, businessman Fabiano Zettel, prepare a plea bargain proposal.
