Libyan Army Soldiers Participated in Battles in the Darfur Region Alongside Rapid Support Forces

Military ID Card Found in AlFashir Belongs to a Soldier from the Libyan Army/Presidential Council
• The military ID card discovered during the battles in Al-Fashir today belongs to a soldier affiliated with the Libyan Army under the Presidential Council, one of the highest executive authorities in Libya.
• The soldier’s unit is part of the Western Mountain Military Region, led by Field Marshal Osama al-Juwaili. This region is a geographic military division that encompasses the Western Mountain areas in Libya.
• There is no direct border connection between the Western Mountain Military Region under the Libyan Presidential Council and Sudan.
• The Western Mountain Military Region is located in the northwestern part of Libya, far from the Sudanese border. The Sudanese border is primarily linked to the southeastern part of Libya, not the northwest, where the Western Mountain region is situated.
• The cities under the jurisdiction of the Western Mountain Military Region, affiliated with the Libyan Presidential Council, include Gharyan, Yafran, Zintan, Rajban, Kikla, and Rayyanah. These are the cities in the Western Mountain area under the military region’s authority. The sub-military units in the Western Mountain region consist of several units, the most prominent of which is the 1st Infantry Battalion—the same battalion whose ID card was found on the soldier in Al-Fashir. Other sub-units include the 2nd Infantry Battalion, the 3rd Tank Battalion, the 4th Brigade, in addition to air defense and engineering units.
• The appearance of a military ID card belonging to a soldier from this military region suggests that Sudan has become a recruitment ground for mercenaries, with militias effectively utilizing these mercenaries by deploying them to battlefronts.
