UNICEF: The number of children born after rapes in Sudan is frightening

UNICEF spokesperson James Elder emphasized that the humanitarian crisis facing children in Sudan is the largest in terms of numbers, describing it as a “crisis of neglect.”

In a press statement, Elder said, “Yesterday, I spoke with a senior medical worker who informed me of the scale of sexual violence during this war. She revealed that she had been in direct contact with hundreds of women and girls, some as young as eight years old, who had been raped, with many of them held captive for weeks. She also spoke of the heartbreaking number of children born as a result of rape, who are subsequently abandoned.”
