A wide range of international leaders and organizations have condemned Israel’s announced plan for a full military occupation of Gaza City. Officials from the UK, Australia, Spain, Germany, and others have voiced their strong opposition, warning that the move would lead to more bloodshed, displacement, and a worsening humanitarian crisis.

UK Prime Minister Keir Starmer called the plan “wrong,” emphasizing the need for a ceasefire and a two-state solution. Similarly, Germany’s Chancellor Friedrich Merz expressed skepticism about how the occupation would help achieve Israel’s objectives. In a related move, Germany announced it would not approve military equipment exports that could be used in Gaza.

The United Nations, China, and Russia have also criticized the plan. A UN human rights official warned that the occupation would bring “more massive forced displacement, more killing, [and] more unbearable suffering.” China and Russia both stressed the need for an immediate ceasefire, with China’s Foreign Ministry stating that “Gaza belongs to the Palestinian people.” The widespread international rejection signals deep concerns over the potential for increased violence and instability in the region.
