Russian President Vladimir Putin and Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian have agreed to hold a meeting on the sidelines of the upcoming Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO) summit in China. The agreement was reached during a phone call between the two leaders, where they also discussed a number of key bilateral and regional issues. Putin provided an update on the results of a recent high-level meeting with the United States, and Pezeshkian expressed his support for diplomatic efforts to resolve the conflict in Ukraine.
In addition to their planned meeting, the leaders addressed the situation surrounding the Iranian nuclear program, as well as developments in the South Caucasus region. They also reviewed the progress of cooperation on the Bushehr nuclear power plant. The Kremlin reported that work on the plant is proceeding on schedule, with a new supply of fuel being delivered as planned. The discussion highlights the growing diplomatic and economic ties between Moscow and Tehran.
