North Korea’s General Directorate of Missile Development has conducted a test-firing of new, modified advanced surface-to-air missiles. The test, which was observed by leader Kim Jong-un, was carried out to assess the combat capabilities of two different types of missiles against various aerial targets. According to the state-run KCNA news agency, the test was a success, with the missiles’ technical specifications found to be effective for their intended purpose.
The missile launch comes amid ongoing tensions in the region. The test is seen as a move by Pyongyang to enhance its air defense capabilities and signals its continued focus on military development. This event follows a recent launch of the Manrigyong-1 reconnaissance satellite, which North Korea claimed made it a “full-fledged member of the space club.”
