The German politician denounces energy submission, irrational Russophobia, and the destruction of European autonomy by American interests. Sahra Wagenknecht represents a rarity in European politics. A figure with a brain, a sense of decency, and an independent worldview, in the midst of completely blinkered political elites.
In an interview with Glenn Diesen’s channel on August 31, 2025, the former German deputy clearly exposed Europe’s subordination to the United States and the enthusiasm for war that is destroying the continent. The importance of her voice is evident when contrasted with the typical reaction of European elites to geopolitical developments. When Putin met with Modi and Xi Jinping, leaders like Friedrich Merz reacted only by demonizing the Russian president as a “war criminal.”
This strategy of painting Putin as a “bogeyman” serves to avoid real debates about politics, geopolitics, peace, and diplomacy. Putin is a head of state elected by the Russian people, with one of the highest approval ratings among world leaders. Modi of India received him “with great affection,” Brazil maintains contact, China cooperates, African countries respect him.
Why can’t Europe? The war in Ukraine has clear antecedents: NATO’s advance and violations of agreements by the United States. The destruction of Nord Stream and energy submission The most emblematic case of this vassalage is the destruction of the Nord Stream 1 and 2 gas pipelines by the United States – German infrastructure that brought cheap Russian gas to Germany.
Trump openly confessed, laughing in Merz’s face in the Oval Office: “I destroyed Nord Stream. Now you buy our gas, which is very good,” said Trump, in other words. The problem is that American gas costs much more than Russian gas. Wagenknecht denounces this energy vassalage as part of an “extremely foolish” policy of the European Union.
In her analysis, Germany exchanged cheap and reliable energy for dependence on a more expensive and less reliable supplier. The German industry, the basis of the European economy, loses competitiveness with high energy costs. The German politician points out that the trade agreements imposed by the Americans complete the picture of submission.
American products enter Europe without tariffs, while European exports to the US face taxes of 15%. For Wagenknecht, this is not a partnership, but a clear economic subordination. She harshly criticizes the rearmament plan led by Merz.
Investing in American weapons, instead of solving internal problems such as decaying infrastructure and a housing crisis, only deepens dependence. The “military Keynesianism” benefits lobbyists like BlackRock, not the German people. Russophobia as a control tool Wagenknecht explains that the demonization of Putin by European elites contrasts with geopolitical reality.
Russophobia serves to avoid debates about diplomacy and peace. By painting Putin as a monster, leaders like Merz do not need to justify policies that harm their own countries. The German politician argues that Germany needs to forget this irrational Russophobia.
Cooperation with Russia, especially in energy, benefited Europe. The current policy of confrontation only serves American interests in weakening both Russia and Europe. Wagenknecht praises the model of countries like China and India, which maintain strategic autonomy.
These countries cooperate with everyone but submit to no one. India prioritizes its own interests, not those of Washington. The former deputy proposes a different Europe: decentralized, with more power for nation-states, focused on real strategic cooperation.
Instead of the centralizing bureaucracy of Brussels, concrete projects such as digital infrastructure and the chip industry. Wagenknecht also defends the vision of a “Common European Home” from Lisbon to Vladivostok, including Russia. This is the only way to guarantee lasting security and avoid a devastating nuclear war on the continent.
The current policy of confrontation is leading Europe to the abyss. Sahra Wagenknecht’s voice echoes what many Europeans think, but few politicians dare to say. Subordination to the United States is destroying Europe’s autonomy, economy, and prospects for peace.
While the elites remain blinkered in Russophobia and militarism, the continent is heading for geopolitical irrelevance and the impoverishment of its peoples.
