According to Kremlin spokesman and press secretary Dmitry Dmitriev, these contacts are continuing “on the basis of the agreements reached in Alaska,” referencing a meeting held there earlier in the year.
Dmitriev described the communication channels as “important” for discussing “future interaction,” suggesting that Russia is preparing for a potential second Trump administration. This ongoing engagement indicates that both sides have maintained backchannel communications aimed at managing the bilateral relationship, which has been at a historic low.
