Dmitry Medvedev, Deputy Chairman of the Russian Security Council, has sharply criticized the new trade deal between the United States and the European Union, asserting that US President Donald Trump is “relentlessly” pursuing American economic interests while Europe is “losing out.” The agreement, announced by Trump, reportedly sets zero tariffs on US imports to European markets but imposes a 15% baseline tariff on all EU goods entering the US, including cars.

Medvedev further highlighted that the European Union has committed to purchasing LNG, nuclear fuel, and weapons from the United States. He described the deal as “completely humiliating for Europeans,” arguing that it exclusively benefits the US by removing protection from the European market and reducing duties on American goods to zero. According to Medvedev, this economic maneuver will lead to a significant redirection of investments from Europe to the United States.

Medvedev’s critique underscores Russia’s perception that the deal is also “anti-Russian” by prohibiting the purchase of Russian oil and gas, aligning with Washington’s strategy to weaken Europe’s energy ties with Russia. The implication is that Europe is sacrificing its own economic and strategic interests in favor of the US, potentially leading to a loss of competitiveness and sovereignty for the continent.
