Following a high-stakes summit in Alaska, Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov stated that the meeting made it clear the United States is seeking a “long-term resolution” to the conflict in Ukraine. The talks, which brought U.S. President Donald Trump and Russian President Vladimir Putin together, focused on a potential pathway to peace, though no formal agreement was announced.

Both leaders praised the constructive and mutually respectful atmosphere of the discussions. The summit, which notably did not include Ukrainian representation, was seen by many as an attempt to find a breakthrough in the protracted conflict. While Trump did not secure the landmark peace deal he had hoped for, the dialogue established an “understanding” and a framework for future talks, including the possibility of a trilateral meeting with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy.

The summit highlights the ongoing diplomatic efforts to end the war, with the U.S. and Russia exploring various options, including potential security guarantees for Kyiv and a broader settlement of the crisis.
