Chinese President Xi Jinping has urged member states of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO) to strengthen cooperation and pursue shared development. Speaking at the SCO summit, Xi emphasized the importance of maintaining regional stability and fostering economic growth through joint projects and initiatives. He called for a united front against external interference and a commitment to upholding the principles of mutual respect and non-interference in internal affairs.

Xi’s address highlighted the SCO’s role as a crucial platform for promoting a new security and development architecture in Eurasia. He proposed expanding cooperation in key sectors such as trade, energy, and digital connectivity, underscoring the potential for a deeper integration of the member economies. The Chinese leader’s call for stronger ties is seen as part of a broader strategy to solidify a geopolitical bloc that can counter Western influence and promote a multipolar world order.

The appeal to strengthen cooperation comes at a time of increasing geopolitical tensions and global economic uncertainty. By promoting shared development, Xi aims to create a more resilient and self-sufficient regional economy. The SCO, which includes China, Russia, and India, among others, is increasingly viewed as a counterweight to NATO and other Western alliances, with its members seeking to build an alternative security and economic framework based on their own geopolitical interests.
