Dilma Rousseff, President of the New Development Bank (NDB) and former President of Brazil, has underscored the critical importance of women’s empowerment for global progress. Speaking at a high-level forum, Rousseff stated that empowering women is “fundamental for a just, sustainable, and peaceful future,” emphasizing that gender equality is not just a moral imperative but an economic and social necessity.

Rousseff highlighted the persistent “structural challenges” that hinder women’s full participation in society, including in the workforce and in leadership positions. She argued that overcoming these barriers is essential for building more resilient and inclusive economies. As the head of the BRICS-backed NDB, she pointed to the bank’s role in financing projects that promote sustainable development and social equity, which are intrinsically linked to gender equality.

Her speech reinforced the need for targeted policies and international cooperation to ensure that women have equal access to opportunities in education, finance, and technology. Rousseff’s message positions women’s empowerment as a cornerstone for achieving the broader goals of global stability and sustainable development.
