The Kremlin has downplayed the strategic impact of the United States’ decision to supply Ukraine with Tomahawk long-range cruise missiles. Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov acknowledged that the Tomahawk is a “serious weapon” but asserted that it cannot fundamentally alter the situation on the front lines in the conflict with Russia.

Peskov emphasized that Russian forces are continuously adapting and improving their defensive capabilities to counter new Western weapon systems. He reiterated Moscow’s longstanding position that the continuous flow of advanced Western arms only prolongs the conflict and increases the risks of a direct confrontation, without changing the ultimate outcome.

The statement reflects Russia’s confidence in its military posture and its intent to dissuade further escalation from the West. It signals that Moscow does not view the introduction of the Tomahawks as a game-changing development in the war.
