The World Economic Forum begins this Monday (19) in Davos, Switzerland. For 55 years, the meeting has brought together political leaders and business leaders from the world’s leading economies. The theme of the event, which runs until the 23rd, is “A Spirit of Dialogue”, seeking to promote cooperation between political leaders, businesspeople and organizations.

The forum will be attended by more than 3,000 delegates from more than 130 countries, including 64 heads of state and government, according to the organization. The Brazilian government’s representative will be the Minister for Management and Innovation in Public Services, Esther Dweck.

She will take part in different debates, including the meeting of the Global Digital Collaboration (GDC), a group that involves governments, civil society, international organizations and companies focused on digital solutions. President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva has attended previous editions, but will not be going to Davos in 2026.
Concentration of wealth
A report released this Monday by Oxfam Brazil, on the occasion of the opening of the World Economic Forum, points out that the wealth of billionaires will grow by more than 16% in 2025. This increase is three times higher than the average of the last five years, reaching 18.3 trillion dollars, the highest level in history.

The study points out that, since 2020, the wealth of billionaires has increased by 81%, while one in four people regularly do not have enough to eat, and almost half of the world’s population lives in poverty. In comparison, the increase in collective wealth by 2.5 trillion dollars between 2024 and 2025 would be enough to eradicate extreme poverty 26 times over.
The study also points out that billionaires’ wealth has increased by 81% since 2020.
